for the position of Instructional Designer

The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) supports, inspires, and
celebrates teaching excellence and innovation. As a partner and
resource for WCU's community of educators, the TLC works to advance
the university's priorities of improving learning experiences for
all students and reducing equity gaps in student success.
The Instructional Designer serves as an educational developer
supporting faculty to create engaging, accessible, and meaningful
educational experiences in online, hybrid, and in-person teaching
modalities. Reporting to an Assistant Director in the TLC, this
position advances teaching excellence through course design,
evidence-based pedagogy, and strategic technology integration in
teaching. The role combines individual consultation with broader
faculty development initiatives to transform teaching practices at
our institution.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of instructional
design theories and effective teaching practices; familiarity with
current evidence-based pedagogical approaches and educational
technology trends; experience creating faculty development
programs; a demonstrated commitment to student success; and values
collaboration to advance teaching excellence and be a trusted
partner in educational innovation.
Responsibilities include:
Provide pedagogical and instructional design guidance and support
online, hybrid, and in-person teaching modalitie
Support selection and integration of appropriate technologies
aligned to pedagogical goal
Develop and facilitate faculty development initiatives to advance
inclusive excellence and innovation
Contribute to organizing and hosting showcases, workshops, and
other events that highlight and celebrate innovative and effective
teaching practices
Develop resource materials, guides, and other digital assets that
support effective teaching practices and technology integration
Participate in research and scholarship around teaching and
learning including publications and presentations
Co-manage department website
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or
related field
Two years or more of experience in course design, development, and
support across multiple teaching modalities
Demonstrated experience with Learning Management Systems
Experience providing consultation services to faculty in higher
education settings
Experience developing and implementing faculty development
initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working collaboratively with faculty from diverse
disciplines
Experience using BrightSpace D2L learning management system
Familiarity with Quality Matters certification process
